Biographical Information[edit]

Tom Slater has been a major league coach, a college coach and a minor league manager.

Slater was an assistant coach at St. Christopher's School in 1991, at Marshall University in 1992 and the Virginia Military Institute (his alma mater) in 1993-1994. He was an assistant at Auburn University from 1995-2000 then was the head coach at VMI in 2001-2003. In 2004, he was an assistant at the University of Florida, then became head coach Auburn in 2005-2008. He was 115-113 in four years at Auburn. He was a coach for Team USA when they won the 2006 World University Championship.

He managed the GCL Yankees in 2009 and 2010 and the Staten Island Yankees in 2011. Slater was then a coach for the Trenton Thunder in 2012. He was the Yankees' roving minor-league hitting instructor in 2013-2014 and a coach for the Tampa Yankees in 2015-2016 and Trenton again in 2017.

In 2018, he received his first major league coaching assignment as assistant hitting coach of the New York Mets. He was dismissed on May 3, 2021 at the same time as hitting coach Chili Davis.
