Biographical Information[edit]

Hu Chen has pitched in the CPBL.

Chen represented Taiwan in the 2012 U-15 Baseball World Cup and 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup. He allowed a run in one inning in the latter event. [1] The CTBC Brothers drafted him in the first round of the 2016 CPBL Draft.[2] Chen was placed in the minor league in 2017, and he had a 5.03 ERA in 17 starts. He led the minor league in strikeouts, starts and home run allowed. Chen earned a promotion in 2018, and he became one of the regular starters for the Brothers. He was named the starter of the 2018 CPBL All-Star Game, and he gave Chin-Lung Hu a leadoff homer. Chen walked Chien-Fu Liao, forced the next two batters to fly out but Liao then scored due to his wild pitch. He retired the three batters he faced in the second inning, and Nick Additon relieved him. Chen ended up 3-6 with a 4.66 ERA in the 2018 season.[3]

However, Chen faced weight problems and several injuries, so he stayed in the minors for the next four years. He only pitched a single game with the big club in 2019, and had 7 appearances in 2021. He returned to the major league in 2023 as a reliever, and he recorded a 3.71 ERA in 15 appearances.

Chen's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 92.6 mph, a changeup and knuckle curve.
