Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroyuki Nakajima played for the Nankai Hawks.

Nakajima debuted in 1959, going 1 for 8 with 3 strikeouts. He struck out in his only at-bat in 1960 then did not play in 1961. He hit .203/.281/.266 in 33 games in 1962. He was 7 for 28 with a walk and homer in 30 plate appearances over 51 games in 1963. In 1964, he only had 47 plate appearances in 98 games, hitting .178/.213/.267. He presumably pinch-ran often as he had 13 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks, but he only tried to steal twice (once successfully). He played one game and did not bat in the 1964 Japan Series, in which Nankai beat the Hanshin Tigers.

In 1965, the Kyoto native batted .209/.225/.267 in 89 plate appearances and 79 games. He was at .204/.266/.303 with 4 steals in 4 tries in a career-high 155 plate appearances over 86 games in 1966. In the 1966 Japan Series, he started in the outfield alongside Motoaki Horigome and Yoshinori Hirose. He was 3 for 12 with 3 walks and a homer but Nankai lost to the Yomiuri Giants. Nakajima was 6 for 27 with a walk and two home runs in 1967.

Overall, Hiroyuki produced at a .204/.258/.293 rate in 449 plate appearances and 373 games in NPB.
