Biographical Information[edit]

Hiromasa Funabasama has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Funabasama was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 5th round of the 2022 NPB draft, and he joined their bullpen as a rookie. The 26-year-old was the oldest player to be drafted by the Giants in the team's history.[1] He pitched 36 games with 8 holds in 2023, and his ERA was 2.70. Funabasama then collected 22 holds with a 2.37 ERA in 51 games in 2024, and he was 10th in holds (between Hiroki Ohnishi and Kouki Saito). In the 2024 CLCS final stage, he pitched 1/3 of a shutout inning in Game 3, then he collected a hold with another 1/3 of a shutout inning in Game 4. He pitched 1/3 of a shutout inning in Game 6, but the Giants were eliminated by the Yokohama BayStars. Funabasama won the 2024 CL Rookie of the Year, getting 190 of 302 votes; Takumi Kurohara was next with 41. [2]
