Biographical Information[edit]
Hideki Sato pitched in NPB and the CPBL.
Sato was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the first round of the 1992 NPB draft after they lost the rights to Hideki Matsui, and he went 4-1 with a 4.12 ERA in his rookie year. He was 7-9 with a 3.14 ERA in 1994, but he slumped to 3-9 with a 6.63 ERA in 1995. Sato recorded a 4.93 ERA in 32 appearances in 1996, then he only pitched 6 games combined in the next two seasons. He was traded to the Seibu Lions for cash in 1999, and he had a 2.88 ERA in 12 games for them.
He only pitched 4 games in 2000, then he was placed in the NPB Farm Leagues until the Lions released him in 2002. The Yakult Swallows picked him up, and Sato had a 4.69 ERA in 28 games in 2003. He was released again in 2004, and the Macoto Cobras signed him. However, Sato still struggled in Taiwan as he was 2-3 with a 6.91 ERA in 2005, then he announced his retirement. He coached the Dragons from 2013 to 2014 after retiring as a player.
Overall, Sato was 22-25 with a 4.61 ERA, struck out 326 and pitched 458 1/3 innings in 9 years in NPB.
