It was renamed in 1951 in honor of Hiram Steven Corbett, an Arizona senator who had helped in brining the Cleveland Indians to Arizona for Spring Training.
Hi Corbett was the home stadium of the Tucson Toros of the Pacific Coast League, and earlier the Tucson Cowboys in several low-level leagues. A new Toros team in the Golden Baseball League played at Hi Corbett in 2009-2010.
The University of Arizona moved into Hi Corbett in 2012 after previously hosting occasional games there.
