Biographical Information[edit]

Heishichi Sato pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years. His son was Japan national baseball team infielder Haruo Sato.

Sato was signed by the Mainichi Orions team in 1950, and he was 9-4 with a 4.08 ERA in his rookie year. He was named the starter of the 1950 Nippon Series game 3, and he allowed 2 runs in 2 innings. The Orions beat the Shochiku Robins in 6 games, and he won his only Nippon Series title. Sato was selected into the 1951 NPB All-Star Game, and he allowed 2 runs in 2/3 of a inning as the starter of Game 3. He ended up 9-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 1951, but he only pitched 2 games in 1952. Sato then jumped to the Hankyu Braves in 1953, and he had a 2.40 ERA in 22 appearances. His ERA was 4.09 in 9 games in 1954, then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Sato was 24-15 with a 3.57 ERA, struck out 146 and pitched 380 1/3 innings in 5 years in NPB.
