Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Hector Alvarez played in the New York Mets minor league system from 2008-2011. He spent his first two seasons in the Venezuelan Summer League followed by a year in the Dominican Summer League. Alvarez moved to the States for his final season with the Mets, playing for the GCL Mets. In 2012, Alvarez played in the Toronto Blue Jays organization with the Bluefield Blue Jays after they took him in the AAA portion of the 2011 Rule V Draft. Overall, Alvarez hit .226/.319/.306 while appearing in 185 minor league games.
According to his LinkedIn page, Alvarez served as the Chief Executive Officer at the Future Star Baseball Academy in Venezuela from 2014-2016. He spent the next two years as a catching instructor for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He then returned to the Mets chain where he remained through 2024 as a "catcher's coach". Alvarez's particular role in not known for either 2019 or 2021. [1]
In 2020, Alvarez was listed as the Dominican Republic Catching Coordinator. This changed to roving catching instructor for 2022. In 2023 Alvarez worked with one team for the first time. He was the catching instructor for the FCL Mets in 2023 and he remained there in 2024.
