Biographical Information

"Harry Taylor and Tim Shinnick, of the Louisvilles, are two of the great 'finds' of the season." - Sporting Life, Oct. 4, 1890

Harry Taylor, out of Cornell University, played most of his major league games for the Louisville Colonels in both the American Association and in the National League. His team in 1890 won the pennant, and he hit .300 in post-season play against the National League Brooklyn Bridegrooms (the two teams tied 3-3-1).

In 1889 he played for the Elmira Hottentots, a team for which Frank Shugart also played.

After his playing career, he became an attorney and served as the legal counsel of the Players Protective Association, one of the first players union, in the 1900s. He later was President of the Eastern League. Eventually he became a judge.

He is the first of four players named "Harry Taylor" to play in the majors.
