Biographical Information

Pitcher Hansel Rodriguez was signed by Toronto Blue Jays scouts Ismael Cruz, Luis Marquez and Rafael Moncada as an amateur free agent before the 2014 season. At 17, he was assigned that season to the GCL Blue Jays, where he went 0-3, 7.11 in 9 games. He was a bit less overwhelmed by the professional environment in 2015, as he improved to 1-2, 4.68 in 10 games for the same team. In 2016, he was sent to the Bluefield Blue Jays of the Appalachian League where in his first 6 starts, he was 2--1, 3.06. On July 26th that year, he was traded straight-up to the San Diego Padres for major league OF Melvin Upton and cash.
