Biographical Information[edit]
Middle infielder Hajime Miki played for the Yakult Swallows from 1997 to 2007 and the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in 2008. Miki was drafted by the Swallows in the first round of the 1995 NPB draft. Frequently used as a defensive replacement and pinch runner, Miki had just 303 at-bats in 359 Nippon Professional Baseball games; he also scored 63 runs and had just 59 hits. Overall, he slashed .195/.242/.241 with 2 home runs, 14 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 12 seasons. He averaged only 30 games and 25 at-bats per year at Japan's highest level of pro ball.
In January 2008, he was traded to the Ham Fighters with Shugo Fujii and Yataro Sakamoto for Keizo Kawashima, Yoshitaka Hashimoto and Takehiko Oshimoto.
He coached the Ham Fighters from 2009 to 2013, the Swallows from 2014 to 2018 and the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2019 and since 2021. He managed the Golden Eagles to a 55-57-8 finish in 2020. He was replaced as manager by Kazuhisa Ishii in 2021.
