Biographical Information[edit]

Hae-chang Lee was an outfielder in the Korea Baseball Organization for six years, half of which he led in some department. His son is former KBO and CPBL pitcher Joon Lee.

Lee played for the South Korean national team that won Gold in the 1975 Asian Championship (their second Asian Championship Gold), was in the 1975 Intercontinental Cup and 1976 Amateur World Series and won Silver in the 1980 Amateur World Series, their best finish to that point in an Amateur World Series. He also won Silver in the 1981 World Games. He was with them for the 1981 Intercontinental Cup and then the 1982 Amateur World Series, when they won Gold for the first time. In 1983, he made his pro debut with the MBC Blue Dragons, hitting .294/.367/.430. He was 7th in the KBO in walks (41), 9th in average, third in hits (114, 3 behind Jong-hoon Park and Hyo-jo Jang), third in steals (26, behind Il-kwon Kim and Jae-bak Kim) and first in runs (65, four ahead of Jang).

In 1984, he fell to .273/.352/.404 and was among the leaders in walks (45, 6th), hits (102, 6th), steals (tied for 2nd, 36) and runs (1st, 62). He moved to the Samsung Lions in 1985 and hit .270/.364/.381, finishing 5th in runs and 3rd in walks (49). In 1986, the 33-year-old hit .315/.360/.429 for Samsung. He batted only .232/.310/.321 for the 1987 Chungbo Pintos but easily led in steals (54, 21 more than Jae-bak Kim); he also led in times caught stealing (19, one more than Jae-bak Kim). He hit .237/.357/.366 for the 1988 Taepyungyang Dolphins to end his career.
