Biographical Information

Håkan Börjes has played often for the Swedish national team. In the 1999 European Championship, he was 1 for 8. In the 2001 European Championship, he batted .185/.290/.185 and allowed 2 runs in 2 innings as a pitcher. During the 2003 European Championship, Börjes produced at a .375/.458/.375 clip with 2 steals in 2 tries; he led Sweden in average and tied for the most runs (4) on the club. Had he qualified, he would have tied Gaspard Fessy for 9th in the event in average.

In 2004, he hit .305/.417/.484 for the Rättvik Butchers of the Elitserien. He was 2-1 with a 4.12 ERA as a part-time hurler. Börjes moved to the Leksand Lumberjacks in 2005 and batted .304/.431/.405 while going 1-0 with 3 runs in 12 1/3 IP.

He hit .385/.467/.462 as a part-timer for Sweden in the 2005 European Championship. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he was 0 for 7 with two walks as a backup corner outfielder for Sweden.

In '06, Börjes batted .295/.392/.431 and had a 4-1, 4.55 record. For the 2007 Lumberjacks, Håkan hit .310/.383/.534 with six triples and 30 RBI; he went 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA. He was 9th in the league in RBI and tied Magnus Pilegård and Richard Leander for second in triples, one behind Dean Lindberg.

He was one for two with a run in the 2007 European Championship and allowed 3 walks, 2 hits and 4 unearned runs in one inning. In '08, the 36-year-old batted .275/.437/.448.

His son Sam Börjes later played for Sweden as well.
