Biographical Information[edit]
C-1B Gustavo Omana has played and coached in the minors.
Omana signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 2004 and hit .223 for the 2004 VSL Reds. In 2005, he batted .221/.287/.279 for the VSL Reds, then .254/.342/.303 in 2006. With the 2007 VSL Devil Rays/Reds, he improved to .321/.388/.404 and was 7th in the Venezuelan Summer League in average. It was his last season as a player.
Omana began a new part of his career as hitting coach and catching instructor with the VSL Rays in 2010-2015. He was assistant coach at Everglades High School in 2017. Omana joined the Pittsburgh Pirates' organization in 2018. He was scheduled to coach for the GCL Pirates in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19, then was an assistant coach for the Indianapolis Indians in 2021 and development coach for the Bradenton Marauders in 2022-2023. He moved over to bench coach for Bradenton in 2024.
