- Bats Right, Throws Right
- Height 5' 11", Weight 190 lb.
Guoqiang Sun pitched for the host Chinese national team in the 2008 Olympics. He allowed 8 runs (6 earned) in 5 1/3 innings with 4 hit batsmen and 3 homers - a solo jack to Bryan Engelhardt, 2-run homer to Tsuyoshi Nishioka and a 3-run blast by Sidney de Jong. Sun was the only pitcher to appear in all three of China's games in the 2009 World Baseball Classic; he was 0-1, allowing 4 hits, 5 walks and 4 runs in 6 innings while striking out seven. His first appearance showed some problems as he walked Kosuke Fukudome, threw a wild pitch and walked Kenji Johjima before recovering to fan Atsunori Inaba. He later balked in Fukudome from third base. He got the start against the strong South Korean national team and took the loss, allowing two runs in the first, faring well for two innings, then allowing a Bum-ho Lee homer in the 4th before giving way to Tao Bu.
