Guangbiao Liu has played for the Chinese national team on several occasions.

Liu played for China in the 2002 Asian Games, 2003 Asian Championship, 2005 Asian Championship and 2005 Konami Cup. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he hit .265/.375/.294 as China's starting second baseman and fielded .912. He went 3 for 4 in a game against Cuba.

Liu was China's starting second baseman in the 2006 World Baseball Classic and did well, going 3 for 9 with a walk, a double and no errors in three games against All-Star teams from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. He played in the 2006 Asian Games, 2006 Konami Cup and 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week (1 for 11, BB). When Team China played in the 2007 Arizona Fall League, Liu went 2 for 11 with a walk and two errors in five games.

Liu went 1 for 9 for China in the 2009 World Baseball Classic as their starting second baseman; his only hit was off Takahiro Mahara. He made a run-costing error against South Korea.
