Biographical Information[edit]

Gordon Farmer pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Farmer was drafted by the New York Mets in the 11th round of the January 1986 Amateur Draft out of junior college and the Cleveland Indians in the 12th round of the 1987 Amateur Draft, but he refused to sign in both times. The Houston Astros then took him in the 8th round of the 1988 Amateur Draft, and he went 8-4 with a 3.60 ERA for the Auburn Astros in his first year. He tied for 4th in the New York-Penn League in wins despite serving up a league-leading 11 homers.

He was 9-2 with a 2.95 ERA for the Asheville Tourists in 1989, and he also had a 2.66 ERA in 7 starts for the Osceola Astros. Among Astros farmhands, he tied Jeff Heathcock and Ed Ponte for 4th in wins (11), trailed only Wally Trice and Rick Dunnum in ERA and led with 149 K (13 ahead of [{Ryan Bowen]]). Farmer pitched 12 shutout innings for the GCL Astros in 1990, and he was 7-5 with a 3.63 ERA in Osceola in 1991. He left the Astros system after the 1991 season. The Wei Chuan Dragons of Taiwan signed him in 1995, but Farmer struggled as his ERA was 6.38 in 4 games, then the Dragons released him.
