Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Glenn Sherlock was selected by the Houston Astros in the 1983 amateur draft. He spent seven seasons in the minors in the Astros and New York Yankees systems. Sherlock started his coaching career as a player/coach in 1989 for the Albany-Colonie Yankees. After his playing days ended, he was a manager in the Yankees organization for several seasons with the 1990 and 1993 GCL Yankees and 1991 Fort Lauderdale Yankees. In 1992 he was the Yankees' catching instructor. He returned to this role for 1994-1995 while also working as a bullpen catcher. He managed the Canberra Bushrangers in 1993.
Moving to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Sherlock was the minor league catching coordinator in 1996-1997. From 1998 through 2016, he was a member of the Diamondbacks' coaching staff. He has been Bullpen/Catching Coach (1998-2002 and 2005-2013), bench coach (2003) and first and third base coach (2004). He switched to third base on July 2nd following the firing of manager Bob Brenly. In 2014, he moved from his long-held bullpen coach position to that of third base coach and in 2015, he was named bench coach under new manager Chip Hale. His assignment ended when Hale was fired at the end of the 2016 season.
In 2017, he joined the New York Mets as third base coach. In 2019, he moved to the first-base coach position. In 2020 he became a coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates, also staying for the 2021 season, then in 2022 he returned to the Mets as bench coach for Buck Showalter, then in 2023 became catching and strategy coach.
