Biographical Information[edit]

Glen Van Proyen was a minor league player, high school coach and scout.

Van Proyen played basketball and baseball in college. After his junior year, he was signed by the St. Louis Browns. With the 1953 Pine Bluff Judges, he had a 9-6, 3.82 record and hit .254/?/.415, playing outfield sometimes when not pitching. He was 5th on the team in slugging. He fell to 9-13, 4.13 for the 1954 Anderson Rebels while batting .190/?/.314. He walked 106 in 183 innings. He tied for 6th in the Tri-State League in losses, third in runs allowed (122), 9th in earned runs allowed (84) and tied for 8th in walks.

Glen then went into coaching, for Fenton High School and Maine South High School. He scouted for over 40 years, primarily for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1965-199?), spending the 2000's with the Chicago Cubs. He signed Mike Huff, Ron Kittle, Darrin Fletcher, and Mike Marshall among others. He said his biggest regret was failing to realize how good Albert Pujols was.
