Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Glen Franklin was the ninth overall pick in the 1978 amateur draft. He was selected by the Montreal Expos in the same round as outfielder Kirk Gibson. He played in the minor leagues until 1985, reaching Triple-A, but never made it to the major leagues.
For the Jamestown Expos in 1978, Franklin batted .354/.475/.521 with 33 walks and only 19 strikeouts in 38 games. The next year, he stole 24 bases and followed that with 20 swipes the next year, 38 the next, 13 the next and 17 in 1984. In 1981, he had a career-high 12 home runs for the Memphis Chicks. He also spent 34 games with the Triple-A Oklahoma City 89ers of the Philadelphia Phillies system that year, but did not hit a home run with the club.
By 1983, he was in the Cincinnati Reds system. He spent most of the year with the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, hitting .322/.396/.481 in 72 games for the team. With the Vermont Reds in 1984, he hit .302/.379/.407. In 1985, he played in the Mexican League to wrap up his career.
