Biographical Information

Guilford "Gip" Dickens played in the minor leagues from 1947 to 1960, missing two seasons in 1952 and 1953, presumably because of military service at the time of the Korean War. He was principally an outfielder.

He spent three seasons with the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association, three with the Birmingham Barons of the Southern Association and three with the Memphis Chickasaws, also of the Southern Association. In 1951, between Minneapolis and the Sioux City Soos of the Western League, he hit .314 with 35 doubles and 22 home runs in 137 games.

On September 19, 1954, he hit for the cycle in a postseason game for the Millers against the Indianapolis Indians. It is one of very few instances of the feat being performed in the postseason. In the 1955 Caribbean Series, playing for Carta Vieja of the Panamanian League, he hit .364 and slugged .682 with 2 homers as the team's best offensive player.

After his playing career he owned and operated a seafood restaurant in his hometown of Richmond, VA.
