Biographical Information[edit]

Gino Lollio has played for the Italian national team.

Lollio set his high school's records in average (.505), home runs (8), runs (44), RBI (42) and hits (55). He hit .183/.239/.231 as a freshman at Michigan. In his sophomore season, Gino batted .311/.377/.477 as the school's regular right fielder. He played for the Alexandria Beetles that summer and was named their MVP, hitting .321, 5th in the Northwoods League, right behind Curtis Granderson. His 46 RBI and 17 doubles led the league and his 6 home runs were better than any of the other batting average leaders. He made the Northwood s League All-Star outfield.

Lollio batted .297/.379/.486 for Michigan in 2002. He returned to Alexandria in the Northwoods League but was not among the league's brightest stars that summer. In 2003, Gino hit .329/.429/.516 with 56 runs in 57 games as a senior. Undrafted out of college, Lollio went to Italy to play baseball. He spent 2004 in Serie A2 with Godo.

In 2005, Lollio moved up to Serie A1 with Reggio Emilia, hitting .310/.349/.438. He tied Julio Pacheco for the league lead with 8 triples. Lollio batted .310/.394/.462 for Le Colonie di Maremma Grosseto in 2006. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, he hit .194/.326/.306 as Italy's left fielder but managed to drive in 9 runs in 9 games. He tied for 4th in RBI, even with Frederich Cepeda, Yung-Chi Chen, Ivanon Coffie, Ariel Pestano and Giuseppe Mazzanti.

Lollio batted .476/.500/.619 in the 2007 European Cup and led the event with 7 runs in five games. He had a rough season for Grosseto in Serie A1, only hitting .222/.316/.366. He was still on the Italian roster for the 2007 Baseball World Cup, going 3 for 10 with two doubles and a walk.
