Biographical Information[edit]

Ginji Akaminai has been a Nippon Pro Baseball infielder.

Akaminai was picked by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the third round of the 2005 NPB draft. He made it to the big club in 2010, going 1 for 6; his lone hit was off Chihiro Kaneko. He led the minor Eastern League in average in 2011 but hit only .222/.263/.222 in 22 games n NPB, backing up at 1B. He became a starter in 2012, producing at a .280/.318/.354 clip; he fielded .985 in 72 games at 2B (most on the team) and .930 in 49 games at 3B (only 4 behind leader Yosuke Takasu). He got his first homer June 27 off Kazuhito Tadano. Rakuten picked up Casey McGehee to play 3B in 2013 and Kazuya Fujita got the action at 2B, moving Akaminai to 1B, where he fielded .994; he continued to develop as a hitter, batting .317/.365/.405. He was 4th in the Pacific League in average behind only Yuya Hasegawa, Toshiaki Imae and Esteban German.
