Biographical Information[edit]

Gil-yong Kang pitched in the KBO for 9 years.

Kang was drafted by the Ssangbangwool Raiders in the first round of the 1991 KBO draft, and he went 8-13 with a 4.50 ERA in his first season. He was 2nd in losses, 2 behind Sam-heum Jeong. Kang was 5-14 with a 4.80 ERA in 1992, and he led the league in losses. He had a 7-11 record with a 5.02 ERA in 1993, and the Raiders traded him to the OB Bears for Dong-chang Choi and Kwang-rim Kim. Kang's ERA was 4.59 in 23 games in 1994, and he recorded a 3.97 ERA in 24 games in 1995. He was 2-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 1996, and his ERA was 4.46 in 39 games in 1997. Kang allowed 6 runs in 3 1/3 innings in 1998, and he was released after surrendering 25 runs in 14 1/3 innings in 1999. He later coached Kyunggi High School from 2011 to 2013, and he coached for South Korea in the 2010 BFA U-18 Baseball Championship.

Overall, Kang was 26-52 with a 4.75 ERA, struck out 382 and pitched 720 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in the KBO.
