Biographical Information[edit]
Gertrude Alderfer was a first baseman in the AAGPBL from 1949 to 1950.
An outstanding athlete, Alderfer played a number of sports including field hockey and basketball and softball in high school and tried out for the league and was only one of nine players out of the two hundred who showed up that made a team that night. She traveled to Illinois right after her high school graduation to report to the Springfield Sallies' spring training.
The next year she played for the Chicago Colleens and Kalamazoo Lassies and played in a game at Yankee Stadium.
Despite her success in high school sports, she wasn't a very good hitter in the AAGPBL.
