Double
(Redirected from Double (baseball))
A two base hit, abbreviated 2B, when a player safely reaches second base on a hit. A double is also awarded when a player is thrown out between second and third base trying for a triple. Also see ground rule double.
Bill James has recently published an article stating that Tris Speaker's career record for doubles is likely to be broken in the next few decades because so many more doubles are being hit, by players who tend to have longer careers.
