In 1924 in the Western League, Lyman Lamb hit 100 doubles in 168 games. He played in the majors in 1920 and 1921 with the St. Louis Browns.

Lyman came up with the Browns originally in 1920, and hit .375 in nine games. He was two years younger than teammate George Sisler. Lyman played outfield in 1920 but then in 1921, he was shifted to playing mostly third base.The regular third baseman was Frank Ellerbe.

Lamb's minor league career ran 16 seasons and he hit over 600 doubles. He also slugged 131 home runs and 75 triples in the minors.

He was mostly an outfielder in the minors but played third base more than any other position in the majors.

The New York Times of March 22, 1922 reported on a spring training game between the Brooklyn Robins and the Louisville Colonels. Lamb, playing for the Colonels, was in center field and the lead-off hitter; he hit a grand slam off Clarence Mitchell. Lamb appeared with the Colonels only briefly during the regular season but spent almost all the season with Tulsa where he hit .361 with 32 homers. He is listed in the Opening Day box score for Louisville in the April 12th game played at Eclipse Park. He is listed as a pinch-hitter, receiving credit for one at-bat without a hit.

He managed twice in the minors.
