The Springfield Sallies joined the AAGPBL in 1948, representing Springfield, IL. The club was the worst in the league, going 41-84, 35 and a half games behind the Racine Belles in the western division. They were managed by Carson Bigbee
Second basewoman Evie Wawryshyn led the Sallies offense, slashing .262/~.313/.290 and finishing seventh in the league in batting average. She also was among the top 10 in total bases (126), steals (66) and hits (114). June Schofield hit .236 and finished in the Top 10 in doubles and triples (the league batting average was only .198). The club had no All-Stars.
In 1949 the Sallies joined the Chicago Colleens as touring player development teams, then were gone for good by 1951.
