Biographical Information

Right-hander George Perez was signed as an amateur free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates before the 1956 season. He spent two seasons in the minors, first with the Douglas Copper Kings of the Arizona-Mexico League, where the 18-year-old went 13-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 1956. George then had another fine season in 1957 with the Lincoln Chiefs of the Western League, going 15-6 with a 2.96 ERA while pitching 204 innings.

Perez, from the San Fernando Valley in Southern California, made the Pirates' roster out of spring training in 1958 and make it into four games, losing his only decision but being credited with one save. His final appearance in the majors came on May 6th. Perez spent the rest of the season with the Salt Lake City Bees of the Pacific Coast League where he went 7-4 with a 3.31 ERA.

George spent three more years in baseball, all in the minors, pitching well in 1959 with Salt Lake again, going 11-7 with a 2.55 ERA. But arm problems hindered his performance in 1960-1961 and he left the game in 1961 with a minor league career record of 47-24 and a 3.41 ERA while pitching 649 innings. After baseball he was reportedly in the auto repair business and as of last notice he was residing in Palmdale, CA.
