Biographical Information[edit]

George Delgado has pitched in Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, the US and Italy.

Delgado debuted in 2002 in the Venezuelan Summer League. In the 2002-2003 Venezuelan Winter League, he allowed one hit and retired no one for the Navegantes del Magallanes. He was in the Dominican Summer League in 2003, going 0-1 with a 1.57 ERA and a league-best 20 saves. In 2004, he saved 7 games and was 2-1 for the Casper Rockies, albeit with a 5.67 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. He tied Chad Blackwell for 4th in the Pioneer League in saves and his 25 games pitched tied Mark Alexander, Mitch Arnold and John Hurd for second behind Josh Newman. He had a save and a 3.52 ERA for Magallanes that winter.

Delgado was busy in 2005 for the Tri-City Dust Devils (1-3, 15 Sv, 2.43, 1.11 WHIP, 37 K in 33 1/3 IP) and Asheville Tourists (0-1, Sv, 10.32, 22 H in 11 1/3 IP). He was 5th in the Colorado Rockies chain in saves. In the Northwest League, George was second to Brian Anderson in saves and was third with 32 pitching appearances (after John Madden and Alfredo Fernandez).

The Maracaibo native allowed one hit and one walk in a third of an inning for the 2005-2006 Navegantes. In the summer, he pitched again for Tri-City (2-3, 7 Sv, 3.38) and Asheville (5.09 ERA in 11 G). He was 5th in the NWL in saves. He was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA for the 2006-2007 Navegantes, then tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings in the playoffs.

In 2008, Delgado was 0-8 with a 6.05 ERA for the Potocco Rangers Redipuglia to finish second in the Italian Baseball League in losses. He gave up two runs in one inning for the 2009-2010 Caribes de Anzoategui, his first VWL appearance in three years.

With the Venezuelan national team in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he was rocked in his first three outings: two runs in one inning against South Korea, 7 runs in two innings against Cuba and 7 runs in one inning versus Australia. He was Venezuela's worst hurler through the main phase yet was called in during the 7th/8th place game and tossed two shutout relief innings in support of Juan Colmenarez in Venezuela's 8-3 win over host Panama. Overall, he gave up 21 hits and 16 runs in 8 innings for the event. His three hit batsmen tied for third in the main phase. He remained with Venezuela for the 2011 Pan American Games and did better (1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K).
