Biographical Information[edit]
George Carman played for the 1890 Philadelphia Athletics, mostly shortstop and right field. He hit .172, while the team's regular shortstop, Ben Conroy, hit .171. He also managed at Easton (1890) in the Eastern Interstate League, the Lebanon Pretzel Eaters (1892), and the Fort Worth Panthers (1896). According to his obituary in the New York Times (June 17, 1929), he was manager of the Brunswick Hotel in Lancaster, PA. He dropped dead in the hotel lobby, attributed to heart disease. He was a member of the Philadelphia Sports Writers' Association.
