Biographical Information[edit]

George Brown pitched in the minors from 2008-2010.

Brown was involved in baseball, basketball and cross country in high school. He was 5-1 with a 2.12 ERA and fanned 69 in 41 2/3 IP as a high school senior after a 0-3, 0.64 record as a junior. As a college freshman, he was 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA in 2005. As a senior in 2008, he turned in a 9-1, 2.91 campaign with just 12 walks in 89 2/3 innings. He was the Big East Conference Pitcher of the Year and was named second-team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was 22-3 in his time at St. John's. The St. Louis Cardinals took him in the 27th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Koby Perez.

Brown made his pro debut with the Batavia Muckdogs, going 0-3 with 3 saves and a 3.42 ERA. He struck out 47 and walked only 8 in 47 1/3 IP. In 2009, he pitched for the Quad Cities River Bandits (0-2, 6.16 in 8 G) and the Palm Beach Cardinals (4-5, 4.26). He struggled with Palm Beach in 2010, allowing 3 runs in 1 1/3 IP. He was released the next spring. Overall, he had a 4-10, 4.40 record and 3 saves with 39 walks and 110 strikeouts in 131 innings.
