Biographical Information

George Bradley, nicknamed "Grin", won 33 games during the last season of the National Association and then won 45 games in the first season of the National League in 1876. He moved around a lot, playing for nine teams in an eleven-year major league career. He pitched the first National League no-hitter in 1876, with the St. Louis Brown Stockings.

Bradley appeared in 347 games as a pitcher, but also appeared in many games at other positions. He was a third baseman in 170 games, and also played 47 games in the outfield and 52 at the other infield positions. He was a better pitcher than he was a hitter, but as a hitter he did hit quite a few triples. He also umpired one game in the Union Association in 1884.

Both he and the later George Bradley were named George Washington Bradley. In later years, "Grin" became a Philadelphia police officer.
