Biographical Information[edit]

Geon-wook Lee pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korean national team.

Lee was excellent for South Korea in the 2012 World Junior Championship at 1-0, 0.48. He struck out 20 in 18 2/3 IP to finish third in the event behind Shintaro Fujinami and Jen-Ho Tseng. [1] The SK Wyverns took him in the first round of the 2014 KBO draft. [2] He struggled in 2016 (2 H, 2 R, 1 K in 2/3 IP) and 2017 (4 H, 1 HR, 3 BB, 1 K, 5 R in 1 1/3 IP). [3]

Lee pitched for South Korea in the 2017 Asian Championship. Facing eventual Silver Medal winner Taiwan, he blanked them for 5 1/3 IP (2 H, 1 BB, 1 HB, 4 K) before Hyun Yang relieved but left with the game scoreless and South Korea wound up falling. In the Bronze Medal Game, he took over for Se-jin Park with a 15-0 lead in the 9th and worked one shutout inning (1 H, 2 K) to close out the rout of the Philippines. [4] The KBO page lists him as retired in early 2018, which gave him a 31.50 ERA in 3 games (2 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 7 R) at Korea's highest level.
