Biographical Information

Geoff Martin was a star Australian outfielder in the 1980s. He represented Queensland in the Claxton Shield from 1976-1984 and again from 1986-1988; they won titles in 1982, 1983 and 1988. He hit .270/.308/.432 for the Australian national team in the 1978 Amateur World Series, their first Amateur World Series. He had 23 putouts, one assist and no errors as their starting right fielder. He was second among the team's regulars in slugging, behind Graham Ward. He played for Australia in the 1980 Amateur World Series. In the 1982 Claxton Shield, he won the batting title and the Helms Award (as MVP). He was with Australia for the 1982 Amateur World Series and 1988 Olympics. By the time the Australian Baseball League was formed in 1989-1990, Martin was at the end of the line; he hit .257/.333/.371 in 13 games for the Brisbane Bandits to end his career. In 2009, he was named the all-time right fielder for the Queensland Claxton Shield Diamond All-Star team. He was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame in 2013 in a class with Joe Quinn, Donald Rice, Sydney Smith and Garry Thompson; he was the only living person inducted that year.
