Biographical Information

Geoff Freeborn has bounced around the baseball globe. He was a member of the 1999 Canadian Junior National team. While attending a US college, the Canadian native became involved in Britain's baseball program. In the 2001 European Championship, Geoff was 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA, allowing 9 walks and 10 hits in 10 innings; his win came against the German national team. He was two for 18 at the plate with 3 runs. In the 2003 European Championship, Freeborn gave up six runs in five innings in a loss to a Greek national team loaded with US imports.

In 2005, Freeborn pitched in France's Division Elite. In the 2005 European Championship, the 24-year-old southpaw tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings to beat Croatia and shut out Italy for an inning. He was 0 for 13 at the plate in the tournament, playing the outfield and first base and not making an error in either spot.

Geoff began his minor league baseball career in 2006 with the Calgary Vipers of his hometown; he went 2-1 with a save and a 4.97 ERA; a LOOGY, he logged 25 1/3 innings in 37 appearances on the hill. He spent that winter playing baseball in Australia, his 5th baseball country. In 2007, he was back with Calgary, going 6-2 with two saves and a 4.25 ERA in 42 outings, and made the 2007 Northern League All-Star game.

Freeborn pitched four games in the 2007 European Championship, allowing only one run in 6 1/3 innings and picking up the win against France. After the European Championships Geoff played winter ball once again this time in another country, playing for the Monteria Cardinals in the Colombian Winter league. Freeborn slumped for the 2008 Vipers, going 3-1 with a save and a 7.36 ERA in 18 games; he surrendered 17 hits in 11 innings.

Freeborn joined the Mannheim Tornados in Germany (a 6th country), going 1-3 with a 4.02 ERA in five outings and going 8 for 19 at the plate with a double, a walk, 8 runs and 5 RBI.

In 2011, Geoff made a return to pro baseball after a 3-year hiatus, played for Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League for a couple of days (6 IP, 11 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 6 R, 5 ER) and then for the team that represented Canada in the World Baseball Challenge.

In 2012, Geoff played in the Hong Kong Invitational with the Calgary Diamondbacks, the team representing Canada. That was the final stop for him, as he now could boast of having played on all six continents! Also in 2012, Geoff qualified for the Remax World Longdrive Championships in Mesquite, Nevada.
