Biographical Information[edit]

Brother of Lee Handley, Gene Handley was in the majors in 1946 and 1947. He was the player most used by the Philadelphia Athletics at second base in 1946.

In 1947, Gene was with the American League team in Philadelphia, PA while his brother Lee was with the National League team in the same city.

Before and after his major league stint, he spent many years with the Sacramento Solons and Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League. Gene was only one year younger than Lee, but came to the majors 10 years later.

He managed the Stockton Ports and Fort Worth Cats in the 1950s. He then scouted for the Chicago Cubs from the 1950s into at least the mid-1980s.
