Biographical Information[edit]
Gary Kendall was baseball coach at the Baltimore City Community College from 1987 to 1989 and at Towson State University in 1990 and 1991. He spent time as a scout with the Baltimore Orioles (1991-1995) and San Diego Padres (1996-1999) while also coaching the Idaho Falls Braves in 1998-1999. Kendall re-joined the Orioles as field coach of the Bluefield Orioles in 2000-2001 and Aberdeen IronBirds in 2002-2003. He made his managerial debut with Bluefield in 2004. Kendall was scheduled to manage the Norfolk Tides in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He spent the last three seasons (2022-2024) managing the Palm Beach Cardinals and led his 2024 squad to the Florida State League championship.
Through the course of his managerial career Kendall took a number of his teams to the playoffs, but lost in the first round four times. However, in 2015 the Baltimore native guided Double-A Bowie to a 79-63 record and the Eastern League Championship, defeating the Altoona Curve in five games. His eight seasons with Bowie also led to 570 wins, a record for most as Baysox manager.
In addition, Kendall managed the Honolulu Sharks of the Hawaiian Winter League in 2006 and the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League in 2013.
