Biographical Information[edit]

Freddie Diaz played in the minor leagues and the Taiwan Major League.

Diaz was drafted by the California Angels in the 45th round of the 1990 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign and continued on to junior college. The Angels then selected him again in the 42nd round of the 1991 Amateur Draft, and this time he inked a deal. He hit .270/.349/.351 in 14 games for the AZL Angels in his first year. Diaz recorded a .293/.369/.453 batting line for the Boise Hawks in 1993, then he crushed 5 homers with a .286/.352/.417 batting line, fielding .932 at short, for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 1994. He was 7th in the California League with 29 doubles, which also were 8th in the Angels chain. He slumped to .235/.277/.362 for the Storm in 1995 (now as a utility infielder rather than a starter as Keith Luuloa took over at short), and he also played 8 games for the Midland Angels. Diaz then hit .199/.256/.327 in Midland in 1996 (and pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings), and he also recorded a .260/.329/.439 batting line in 34 games with the AAA Vancouver Canadians.

The Californian batted .267/.353/.378 in Midland in 1997, then he played 75 games in Lake Elsinore with a .304/.360/.443 batting line in 1998 while hitting .182/.357/.182 in Midland. The Texas Rangers signed him, but Diaz went 5-for-52 for the Tulsa Drillers and he was released. He went to the Zion Pioneerzz, and he hit .217/.312/.333 in the rest of the '99 season. Diaz improved to .285/.357/.403 in 2000, then the Kaoping Fala of Taiwan signed him. He had a solid .313/.373/.516 batting line with 9 homers in 2001. Diaz also appeared with the Edinburg Roadrunners in 2005, and he hit .270/.357/.351 in 11 games.

He played every position except catcher and center field in his minor league career.
