Biographical Information

Frank Morejón hit .200 and slugged .257 as a third-string catcher (primarily a defensive sub) for the Industriales in the 2007-2008 Serie Nacional. Through that season, his fourth, he had hit .228. He was 7 for 39 with three doubles and five walks in 2008-2009. In 2009-2010, he hit a meek .254/.278/.343 but threw out an amazing 23 of 33 attempted base-stealers. He was third in the Serie Nacional in runners gunned down despite not making the top 10 in steals allowed. He was with Cuba for the 2010 World University Championship, in which he was named the All-Star catcher.

Morejón hit .260/.310/.319 in 2010-2011, fielding .979 and throwing out 12 of 28 who tried to steal. In the 2011 Pan American Games, he was 0 for 1 in two games, as third-stringer behind Ariel Pestano and Yosvani Alarcón. He backed up Pestano in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, going 2 for 4 with a walk, two runs, two RBI and a double. In the Gold Medal game, he replaced Pestano late in a 2-1 loss to the Dutch national team but did not bat, as Héctor Olivera Jr. pinch-hit for him.

His offensive numbers in Cuba fell to .226/.296/.321 in 2011-2012. He still made the national team for the 2012 Haarlem Baseball Week, going 2 for 6 with a run as Pestano's sub. He hit .249/.315/.320 between the two halves in 2012-2013. In the 2013 World Baseball Classic, he was a late defensive sub each of the first four games, replacing Eriel Sánchez. He got to bat in game 4, getting a hit off Leon Boyd before Yosvani Peraza batted for him. In game 5, he got to start, going 1 for 2 against Taiwan before Luis Rivera pinch-ran. In game 6, Cuba's last game, he started against the Netherlands, going 0 for 1 against Orlando Yntema before Rivera pinch-hit for him. He was 2 for 7 with a walk in the 2013 World Port Tournament, backing up Sánchez.

In 2013-2014, he hit a meek .212/.298/.293 but fielded .998 and threw out 29 of 39 who tried to steal to win the Gold Glove. Only Luis Castro threw out more base thieves but he allowed 17 more swipes. He was 1 for 1 in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, backing up Alarcón and Yulexis La Rosa for the Gold Medalists. He hit better (.234/.312/.351) in 2014-2015 and allowed 16 steals in 31 tries.

Joining the Vegueros de Pinar del Río for the 2015 Caribbean Series, he was 2 for 11 with a double as they were the first Cuban squad to win a Caribbean Series in 55 years. He played a role in the winning run in the 10th inning against Puerto Rico, hitting into a Yadiel Rivera error before Alarcón pinch-ran and scored the winner. He was on the Cuban team that won Bronze in the 2015 Pan American Games but did not play, backing up Alarcón and La Rosa. In the 2015 Premier 12, he backed up Alarcón and Osvaldo Vázquez and played three games but did not get an at-bat. In his lone plate appearance, he laid down a sacrifice bunt against Jim Ploeger to set up the winning run against the Netherlands.
