Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Frank Metz played in the minor leagues from 1909 to 1918 and from 1920 to 1923, hitting .307 with 128 home runs, 510 doubles and 2,237 hits. He had the best years of his career in his final three seasons, hitting .369, .360 and .343 in 1921, 1922 and 1923, respectively. From 1920 to 1923, he averaged 58 doubles a season.

He was taken by the Chicago Cubs from the Muskogee Navigators in the 1909 Rule V Draft and by the Boston Braves from the San Antonio Bronchos in the 1912 Rule V Draft.

In 1912, he managed the San Antonio Bronchos. In 1920, 1921 and 1923, he skippered the Sioux City Packers. A Frank Metz is listed as a manager of the Columbus Senators in 1901, though it is unlikely this one as he would have been 16 years old at the time; likewise, a Frank Metz is listed as a skipper of the Akron Buckeyes and McKeesport Colts in 1905. Though more likely to be the same man, he also would have been only 20 years old.
