The Akron Buckeyes were members of the Ohio-Pennsylvania League when the class C loop was formed in 1905, but they changed their name in 1906 to the Akron Rubbernecks. In 1920 the name was revived for the Akron entry in the International League The Buckeyes went 88-63 that year, but finished 21 games behind a strong Baltimore Orioles club and in 4th place overall. Jim Thorpe was one of 5 players to hit 13-15 triples and tied for the team lead with 16 homers. The former Olympic star hit a team-high .360 and stole a team-high 22 bases, while scoring 102 runs. In '21 they were replaced by the Newark Bears.
