Akron Rubbernecks
The former Akron Buckeyes were renamed the Akron Rubbernecks in 1906. Members of the Ohio-Pennsylvania League, the team became known as the Akron Champs a year later. The name was used one more time, in 1915, by the Akron entry in the Buckeye League.
Since 1880 Akron was the home of Goodrich, Goodyear, and Firestone giving the city the title of "Rubber Capital" of the world. Source: Baseball Team Names, 1869-2012. McFarland Publishing (2012).
