Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Matthews was a minor league infielder. He debuted in 1911 with the Champaign-Urbana Velvets, hitting .229. In 1913, he hit .218 and slugged .345 as a backup shortstop behind Jack Coffey for the Denver Bears. The next year, he played for both Denver (.295, .410 SLG in 20 G) and the Evansville River Rats (.273, .323 SLG in 131 G). He laid down 66 sacrifice hits for the River Rats, the all-time Central League record. He was with the same two clubs in 1915, hitting .235/?/.316 for Evansville (79 G) and .258/?/.299 for Denver (28 G). He was Evansville's second baseman full-time in 1916 (the team was now known as the Evansville Evas), hitting .237. He improved to .269 with the 1917 River Rats to end his playing career.
