Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Frank Bruggy played five years in the majors, serving as the first-string catcher for the 1921 Philadelphia Phillies, batting .310 with 5 home runs and 28 RBI in 96 games. He became a backup for the 1922-1924 Philadelphia Athletics, a team managed by former catcher Connie Mack. Bruggy hit over .340 in the International League in both 1919 and 1920.

He was one of the earliest major leaguers out of Seton Hall. The school produced a number of major leaguers around that time, the most prominent of which was Red Shannon. Bruggy was from Elizabeth, NJ, which, like Seton Hall, is not far from New York City.

Bruggy played semi-pro baseball for many years. He played for the Paterson Silk Sox in 1917 in the Tri-County League. That season he collected 15 hits in 14 games, scored eight runs, and hit three homers and a triple. He played for the Brooklyn Bushwicks in 1925 and 1926.

Played pro basketball from 1908-09 to 1924-25. For his career, he played in 409 major league games and scored 2777 points for a 6.8 average. He also coached for eight years, and had a 108-84 record.
