Biographical Information

Foster Castleman played five years in the majors, in a career hampered by knee problems. He was the regular third baseman for the New York Giants in 1956, their second-to-last year in New York, hitting .226 with 14 home runs in 124 games. In 1958, his final season, he had 200 at bats with the Baltimore Orioles as he alternated at shortstop with Willy Miranda. The only other major leaguer with the last name Castleman is Slick Castleman. The only other major leaguer with the first name Foster is Foster Edwards.

He was a member of a team that played in the Junior Legion World Series in 1948, but was unable to play due to an ankle injury. He signed with the Giants organization shortly thereafter, leading Western Association shortstops with 50 errors in 1949, then repeating the feat in the Tri-State League in 1950 with 61. He missed 1951 and 1952 due to military service. He was in the Navy for those two years and then played for the Minneapolis Millers in 1953-1955.

After baseball, he was in the real estate business.
