Infielder Fenglian Hou has been an occasional member of the Chinese national team and was their top player in the Beijing Olympics.

Hou went 2 for 7 with a triple, walk and steal in the 2002 World University Championship as the backup SS to Yu Bing Jia. He played for China in the 2002 Asian Games and 2003 Asian Championship. He led the 2003 China Baseball League in steals. He was with China in the Konami Cup from 2005-2007 and in the 2006 Asian Games. In the 2007 Arizona Fall League, he was 1 for 7 with a walk.

Hou starred for China in the 2008 Olympics, hitting .381/.552/.381 with 8 walks and 8 hits in 7 games at DH. He led his team with 3 RBI. He delivered the game-winning double against Chien-Fu Yang in China's upset over Taiwan, its lone win of the Games. He broke up a perfect game by Hideaki Wakui in China's loss to Japan. His OPS was a whopping 545 points better than the next-best by a Chinese starter, Lingfeng Sun. Hou finished 8th in the preliminary round in average.

Hou was one of China's better hitters in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, going 3 for 11. All three of his hits came in their win over Taiwan, in which he scored the first run and drove in another.
