Biographical Information[edit]

Eugene Steinbach has been a college coach. His brother Tom Steinbach played professionally.

Steinbach was picked by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round of the January 1981 draft. He hit .259/.345/.336 for the 1981 Lethbridge Dodgers and led Pioneer League catchers in fielding percentage (.981). He did not play in 1982-1983, then was with the Cleveland Indians organization in '84. He played that year for the Batavia Trojans (2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB), Buffalo Bisons (5 for 45, 2B, 7 BB) and Waterloo Indians (31 for 94, 9 2B, 8 HR, 14 BB). He was the best-hitting catcher named Steinbach in the Midwest League, which is saying something as Terry Steinbach was also in the 1984 MWL.

Steinbach was assistant coach at Adelphi University and Molloy College (8 years) before being hired as head coach of State University of New York Maritime College for 2010.
