Erwin Walters was an outfielder in Cuba for 10 years. He was the first batting champion and first MVP of the Cuban Serie Nacional. In 1962, the league's first year, Walters hit .367 for the Occidentales to take the two honors. The average would remain a league record for over a decade before Fermín Laffita broke it. He was 5 for 20 for the Cuban national team in the 1962 Central American and Caribbean Games, when they failed to win a Medal. Playing for the Centrales in 1966-1967, he led the league with seven home runs. In ten years, Erwin batted .270/.353/.387. He fielded .967.
