Biographical Information[edit]
Erubiel Armenta has pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.
He was signed by Philadelphia Phillies scouts Oneri Fleita and Charlie Gastelum in 2019. [1] The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He made his pro debut in winter ball, going 0-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 13 games for the Cañeros de Los Mochis in 2020-2021. He walked 10 in 14 2/3 but allowed only seven hits. In 2021, he made his minor league debut, appearing for the Clearwater Threshers (2-0, Sv, 0 R, 17 K in 6 2/3 IP), Jersey Shore BlueClaws (2 Sv, 3.14 in 11 G, 30 K in 14 1/3 IP) and Reading Fightin Phils (1-0, 0 R in 2 IP) with an impressive 49 K in 23 IP overall. He struck out at least one batter a game, fanning 47.1% of those he faced. [2]
In 2022, the Tijuana native pitched for Jersey Shore, going 3-2 with a save and a 3.60 ERA. He allowed a .161 average. He tied Andrew Baker and Spencer Mraz for 7th in the South Atlantic League with 40 appearances. After a strong winter with Los Mochis (1-0, 0.87 ERA, 4 H, 15 K in 10 1/3 IP), he made Mexico's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He appeared once in pool competition, against Great Britain. He relieved Taijuan Walker in the fifth, trying to protect a 1-0 lead. He got D'Shawn Knowles on a fly, walked Darnell Sweeney but picked him off, then walked Jaden Rudd. Manny Barreda succeeded him and ended the inning. [3]
